Volunteer Your Time and Talents

Putting a major long distance sled race on is no small feat – and the only way it ever happens is with the generous help from our volunteers.  By just giving a few hours of your time you can help us organizers fill one more position – accomplish one more task.

Positions Available:

Volunteer Coordinator – this is the perfect position for someone who loves working with others and is great at organizing.

Host Families – Bring some excitement into your home by hosting mushers and their handlers why they stay in the Helena area.  This is a great opportunity to get to meet and spend time with the mushers.

Helena Microbrew and Cool Dog Ball – Help at the Microbrew and Cool Dog Ball (handing out glasses, taking tickets, selling tickets, pouring beer! )

Helena Vet Check – Before any of the dogs can compete in the race, they are all thoroughly examined by licensed veterinarians.  We can use assistance at the vet check, parking musher vehicles, helping vets check dogs, marking dogs, and selling race merchandise.

Helena Activities and Remini Start – We can always use more help with these events and this year with expanded public events, we need more volunteers to make it happen.  Help us with parking musher vehicles, answering questions, keeping sleds and dogs in starting sequence, selling race merchandise.

Butte Activities – We need volunteers to help with our Junior Musher Vet Check, for our public sled dog rides, and for a possible large evening event.  If you or your organization or business would like to be involved – please contact us at the number listed below.  We are excited about coming to Butte and look forward to working with you!

Lincoln Start – When we start a race – the mushers are sent off quite literally by the clock.  Organization and people helping in the right places make this possible. If you can help with parking musher vehicles, traffic control at Hi-Country, keeping track of mushers, sled riders, crowd control, selling race merchandise – then we need you. Please get in touch!!

Race Checkpoints – With a 350 mile race we have a lot of things strung out – we need help with help in checkpoints can stretch out and many volunteers are needed to keep the checkpoints fully staffed during the race.  Duties could be checking in mushers, timing, crowd control, selling race merchandise.

Snowmobiler – If you have a snowmobile and want to travel the race route, our trail assistants need YOU! We have 350 miles of trail to keep open during the race in spite of snow, blizzards, and warming.

Finish – If you like to stay up all night, this is the job for you. The finish line crew waits for the mushers to cross the finish line, check them in, ask them if they have any needs, and keep the fire going.

Computer and Photoshop Skills – This year we are going to have two race programs, a calendar, and possibly gift card sets.  If you have layout skills and can work your way around the computer – get in touch – we could use your talents!

If you can help us with any of these important tasks – please get in touch with us at info(at)racetothesky.org, or call Pam at (406) 881-3647 or Ray at (406) 541-0044, or use the contact form found here
